We are like you. We love boots and we need wide width fittings. Half the challenge s knowing where to look and we have to admit the advent of the internet has made being fashion conscious a lot easier for us harder to fit females.
Wide width boots come in the same foot sizes as regular width boots but the boot top is wider, hence the name wide width boots. This usually means a boot that is around 14 inches in diameter at the calf.
What I don’t understand is how they figure out the proportions or ratio of foot size to calf size. Let’s use a range of sizes from #1 to #10 for ease of demonstration given European sizes are different to US and UK and so on. If you have a small foot, say a #2 yet you are stout and have wide claves, how do they determine the right width to make #2 size wide width boots?
Now say you are a #10 and have skinny claves, do your legs rattle around in your boots if you were to get one with a ‘standard’ sized calf? Or if you have fat calves, will 14 inches be enough and does that determine if the boots are wide width boots?
Before buying your wide width boots online I suggest you do two things. First of all, make sure of your foot size and check out what the corresponding size is in European, UK and USA sizes. Secondly, take a tape measure and measure around your calf at the widest point. Do this in inches and centimetres as if, for example, you buy Italian made wide width boots they will no doubt be in metric sizes rather than inches.
